The Price of Fish

There are loads of old school English sayings we paraphrase and use and don't really know why we use them, do they just sound good or fit in with what we are saying at that point in time or is it because we have heard it said some where before in some way shape or form and for me it sounded good when our elders used to say it.

No point crying over spilt milk, (my mum's favorite)

Driving me round the bend (also, my mum's favorite)

There is no point arguing over the price of fish??? let me stop you there.

Well I am afraid that last one struck a chord with me, fish and chips , the traditional English sea side dish, a jewel in the kings crown and the one you could once depend on is now in trouble and the price is rising at an alarming rate !

Who remembers batter bits?? they were free !!

In my fit of rage at my new discovery I thought I would try my luck with batter bits at my local chippy (Marios) and they wanted a pound.. I know a pound is only a pound but when they were free its inflation at its worst.

The rise and fall of fish and chips
We can help with competitor analysis but not the with the price of fish and chips.

The cost of this dying light of a dish has now risen by almost a fifth and now nearly setting you back the best part of fifteen quid for a meal that was under a tenner.

Factors including the cost of living crisis mean outlets are raising prices in order to survive

In a statement, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said: "We recognise that many businesses are struggling with the impact of higher prices, which is why we remain committed to our plan to halve inflation this year.

"That's why we have held down non-domestic energy bills, slashed business rates bills by 75% and recently set out a range of policies that will bring over 100,000 people into the labour market - ensuring businesses have access to the skills they need."

I don't know about you but i wont be giving up this end of week treat that has now become a once a month luxury but it is sad to see that some of these business's are really feeling it and we are loosing them daily.
